The long-awaited re-opening of the Virgin Australia Premium Entry and Security lanes has finally arrived. You can now fast track through security in both Brisbane and Melbourne airports if you are an eligible customer. In addition, Premium Entry in Brisbane has reopened, along with a Priority Screening lane in Melbourne.
The premium security experience is exclusively for Velocity Frequent Flyer Platinum, Gold and Beyond members, VA Business Class guests, and eligible high tier guests of the airline’s international partners. It will open between 5.00am and 10.00am weekdays, allowing guests to move seamlessly through both airports.

We know time is important for our most frequent flyers, and our expanded security facilities in Brisbane and Melbourne are a ticket for loyal guests to quickly move through the screening process, so they can spend more time enjoying our lounge experience prior to their flight.”
Commenting on Premium Entry at Sydney Airport, the spokesperson said “Virgin Australia is continuing to work through options with Sydney Airport Corporation.”
Virgin Australia has also announced that members with a status end date between July 2022 – June 2023 (inclusive) who do not earn the Status Credits required to retain their status are now eligible for an automatic 12 month status extension and a capped status credit rollover. Previously, they had stipulated that members needed to book an eligible flight to qualify but this has now been removed as part of their ‘Customer Love’ initiative to recognise loyalty.

Masks no longer mandatory on International flights into Australia
This news follows last week’s announcement that mask requirements on domestic flights have also been dropped, effective from today. The Department of Health still recommends that travellers wear masks for their own personal protection, but it is now each individual’s choice.
Airline passengers have been required to wear masks on flights to Australia since January 2021.
“I encourage everyone travelling overseas to be mindful of the continuing risk of COVID-19 and to take personal precautions to stop the spread and stay safe,” Minister for Health, Mark Butler said
The Minister for Transport Catherine King acknowledged the role of workers across the airline industry in helping to keep Australians safe.
“The Australian Government is grateful to workers across the international airline industry and the travelling public for their commitment to the public health requirements throughout the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.
